Guest Speaker: Dr. Deborah E. Allen, University of Delaware

In problem-based learning (PBL), students learn academic content by addressing real-world problems. Dr. Deborah Allen, noted expert, leader, and innovator in the field of problem-based learning, spoke at UCI on the challenges and rewards of implementing PBL in higher education. She is part of a cohort of PBL teachers and researchers at U. Delaware who have received grants from the National Science Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE). Dr. Allen is also a professor of Biology and has received the University of Delaware's Excellence in Teaching Award.
